2 Common Roof Repairs

by Leslie Turner

You need your roof to be in good shape every day. The best way to make sure your roof is in good shape is to have a roofing contractor come to your house, check your roof, and do any necessary repairs. What are some of the repairs that your roofer could make to your roof?

Missing, Cracked, or Loose Shingles

While this may not be a repair that every roof has to have, it will happen to any roof with shingles. Many things, like severe weather, could knock your shingles off your roof, cause them to break, or loosen them from your roof. For example, one thing that could damage your shingles is age. Older shingles, especially asphalt shingles, can get brittle with age. The older the shingle is, the more likely it is to crack. Even just one cracked shingle will let moisture into your house because the water can slide in through the crack. When the roofing contractor looks at your roof, they can see any bare spots or cracked areas. The contractor can tell you about them so that you can make the best possible decision when it comes to your roof.

Fascia Replacement

You probably look at your roof's fascia every day without even knowing what it is. It is that wooden board that runs along the lower end of your roof. This board is usually behind your gutters and will give extra support to your roof and possibly add that additional support to your gutters. The board is also designed to help protect the rest of your roof. Because of where the fascia is found, it is prone to water damage. The rest of your roof may be in good shape, but your fascia may be damaged because the water going into the gutters has caused damage to the gutters leading them not to drain well and hold water up against the roof. This will let things like holes, wood rot, or insects into the fascia, which means it won't support the roof or keep moisture out as well.

If you are worried about your roof's condition, call a roofing service to schedule an appointment for them to come to your house, check out your roof, and tell you what shape it is in. When the contractor is done checking over your roof, they can tell you if you need to repair or replace it.
